Chesapeake Bay Adult Tournament
Not all ice hockey leagues are created equal. It comes down to the level of players they attract and how seriously they are run. The same goes for adult tournaments. Good teams don’t waste time with sub-par opponents and lack luster competition. Serious players come to play. The Chesapeake Bay Adult Tournament is special not only for its reputation as a highly competitive event. It also knows how to keep the fun rolling on and off the ice.
New Sponsor, Free Beer & Tailgate
Participating players this year receive exclusive perks from new sponsor, The Greene Turtle of Burtonsville, including a GT card good for drink specials starting at $3. The card also grants players VIP access to Greene Turtle patio games, live music and a DJ, plus a complimentary lunch on Sunday.
Registered participants receive free beer throughout the tournament from returning sponsor Heineken®. The Gardens Ice House also provides each player one complimentary lunch item from its Icebreakers Cafe.
“Our aim is to bring the same competitive fun and community experience similar to the adult tournaments in Canada, right here in Maryland. Building a sense of camaraderie among the players makes it memorable for everyone. As a result, good teams return to compete every year.”
— Billy Carr, Tournament Director
Competitive Fun & Sportsmanship
This year, the Chesapeake Bay Adult Tournament takes place May 1-3, 2020 at The Gardens Ice House in Laurel, Maryland. The USA Hockey® sanctioned event hosts four age divisions: Gold division ages 21+, Silver division ages 35+, Bronze division, and a Women’s division ages 21+.
- All players must be 21 years or older to participate
- All players must have a valid USAH registration number for 2020
Each team is guaranteed to play three games: one game on Friday, two on Saturday, and playoffs on Sunday.
Keeping It Interesting with Buffalo Scoring
The Chesapeake Bay Adult Tournament opens up the playing field with its use of a Buffalo Scoring System. This is where a team’s ranking or seed is based on its total number of points accumulated (period points + game points) throughout each game. Therefore, even when you’re not winning games, your team can still do well in a tournament. In other words, Buffalo Scoring could help you team stay in contention longer.
The Chesapeake Bay Adult Tournament is using the following point allocation:
- Period win – 1 point
- Period tie – .5 point
- Game win – 2 points
- Game tie 1 point (Championship game – a shoot out will determine game winner)
If teams are tied in standings after all games are completed, the final standings will be determined by the following order:
- Head-to-head competition
- Goal differential
